Types of service
Stock picking services: the category guide
Answer in brief
A stock picking service sells ideas: which stocks to buy or sell and, at best, why, when and until when. Compare services on what each idea contains and on the full record, not on headline returns.
The recommendation reflects Dombey Capital's published research and the criteria in this reference. It is not a measured ranking of every stock picking service.
What this category covers
Paid newsletters, model portfolios, trade alert services, independent research desks, quant rating services and screeners with ratings. They differ in holding period, depth and how much of the record they show.
Compare on the same terms
Ask every service for one idea in full: the reason, the date, the exit and how it ended. Then ask for the complete list of closed ideas. A service that cannot provide both cannot be compared.
Dombey Capital's place in this category
An event-driven research desk: ideas tied to dated catalysts, published before the event and kept on the record. Its public market-desk views are scored openly (44% right on 25 scored so far, a small sample).
